Ushongo Bay is a tropical paradise with a sandy beach with safe swimming throughout the year. It is situated 15 kms from the old Arab town of Pangani. Ushongo is touristically largely undeveloped (unlike neighboring Mombasa, which is a mass tourism destination). There are no traffic noises, no souvenir shops, no hawkers, water scooters or other disturbances.  Typically there are no more than 20-50 tourists in the Ushongo area (three bays, approx. 10 km). The usual movements to be seen are villagers on bicycles on the beach and traditional fishing boats crossing the bay.

Temperatures range between 25 and 35 C with December being the hottest month. The rainy season usually starts in April and ends in May. The water does not go out more than 5 metres at low tide. Near the house there are no rocks or mangroves.

How to get there: The most convenient way of getting to Ushongo is by air. Regional Air offers daily flights from Arusha to Ushongo on request ("Kwa Joni" airstrip is 10 minutes away from house (but don't worry, there is only one flight per day) with onward connections to Europe/USA via Kilimanjaro airport (KLM).

Mombasa/Kenya is the best connection point for cheap charter flights from Europe.

By road:
  • Arusha 440 kms - 6 to 7 hours (5.15 hours to Kilimanjaro International Airport)

  • Dar es Salaam 320 kms - 4 - 5 hours (Julius Nyerere International Airport)

  • Tanga 70 kms. 90 minutes

  •                   Mombasa 230 km, 3-4 hours
